After multi-millionaire Ted Ammon is found bludgeoned to death at his East Hampton estate, the fingers point to his estranged wife, Generosa Rand, and her lover, an electrician named Danny Pelosi.

A homicide detective, haunted by her past, goes undercover as an escort in an effort to solve a rash of brutal murders.

An aspiring fashion designer gets her chance to debut at a lavish Hamptons wedding where she is mistaken for a socialite and falls for a groomsman. Their love story could fall apart when she is exposed as a fraud.

Helena Mora, the head of an eccentric theatrical family, has decided to sell her large estate in the Hamptons because of her recent money troubles. Before she completes the sale, she wants to have one last gathering of family and friends, with dramatic performances. Bringing everyone together, though, creates rivalries and tension, especially for Oona, a temperamental but successful movie actress who seeks the approval of her creative peers.

The Hamptons is a limited run prime-time soap opera which aired during the summer of 1983 for 5 episodes on ABC. It was produced by Gloria Monty, the producer credited with turning General Hospital from a low-rated daytime serial to a soap phenomenon. The series is set in Manhattan and the affluent Long Island community referenced in the show's title.The cast includes actors with previous experience in daytime and prime-time serials: Leigh Taylor-Young, Michael Goodwin, John Reilly Bibi Besch, etc.The series was shot on videotape rather than film, which gave it a look consistent with most daytime soap operas. The focus of the series was on the wealthy Chadway and Duncan-Mortimer families, who co-owned the stylish Duncan-Chadway department stores. The Chadways were positioned as the noble family, while the Duncan-Mortimers were the schemers. The plots concerned power maneuvers to gain control of the retail corporation, and illicit sexual couplings.

Filmed between May and September of 2001, a documentary about The Hamptons, an area in the eastern part of Long Island, New York, famous for being a vacation spot for the wealthiest Americans: a place where wealthy families can spend the summer and weekends by the beach.
